We have students and teachers who are very excited about using multimedia to create projects which are fantastic! What a terrific learning tool! My question is how detailed should I get in enforcing copyright law with middle school students, especially related to using music. Students find a song that goes “perfectly” with their presentation and want to use the song throughout the entire presentation. Sometimes I feel like I know enough about copyright to be dangerous and a real pain to teachers and students! On the other hand, shouldn’t we enforce the law from the beginning to make it easier as the students get older and more sophisticated with their technology use? This seems to be my latest soapbox, and a source of confusion and irritation to most others in my building.
