Big 6

My name is Scott Cassell and I am in my first year as the Librarian at Riverheads High School in Augusta County. I have read about and visited your blog page and was wondering two things. First, how could I get a new topic for discussion on the blog? Second, I am very interested in starting to use the Big6 program at RHS. I have at least two English teacher that are “ripe” for collaboration efforts and are interested in what I have shown this thus far. However, I do not have a strong enough background for implementing the Big6 aside from what I have gotten from the Big6 website. I need information on the following topics and hope that I can get this from the blog.

(a) What do I need to purchase, read, etc. in order to implement this program?

(b) Does Big6 do all that it claims to do?

(c) Should I just start with Big6 first (”on paper”)and add the Turbo Tools later?

Hey! Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile!!!! It’s that Scott guy! Glad to see you got a LMS position after how hard you worked to get certified. The rest of us in the Hanover/Spotsy cohort finish our last class tomorrow!!! Stick a fork in us; we are DONE!!! Seriously, I think I can email you a powerpoint I have on file about Big 6. Our middle schools use it more than our high schools.
    Still teachin’ English—

Hi Lyle :) It’s Cheryl from the Hanover/Spotsy Cohort. Glad to see you got a job, and I hope you got info on Big6. I am trying it in elementary school in the next couple of weeks (still planning), but could send you some items that might work for high school. Let me know if you still need stuff.

I use the Big 6 with my fourth and fifth graders. I previewed Turbo Tools, but decided I’d use my own tools. The website is very helpful: http://big6.com/
I have used it for more years then I can recall right now and have found it very useful.
